(949) 800-8491The most important thing to know:
You have time.
Scammers create panic on purpose so you act before you think. That rushed “do this now” feeling is the warning sign. Your real bank, a real company, and your real family can all wait while you check — and so can you.
Do these while you wait — in order
You don’t have to do all of these, and you don’t have to do them alone. Start at the top.
- 1Don’t pay anyone — especially not with gift cardsNo real company, agency, or relative is ever paid in gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency. If someone is telling you to, stop now and keep your money.
- 2Hang up, or close the windowOn a call? Just hang up — you’re not being rude. A pop-up? Close the tab. If it won’t close, hold the power button for ten seconds to turn the computer all the way off.
- 3Don’t call the number on the pop-upIt rings straight to the scammers. The pop-up itself is the bait. Call us instead.
- 4If you let them control your computer, disconnect itIf you installed anything or let someone “take over” your screen, unplug the computer from Wi-Fi or pull out the internet cable. That instantly cuts their access.
- 5Keep your phone handy — we’ll do the rest togetherCall us and we’ll check whether anything was installed, help you safely change the right passwords, and tell you what to watch for. Calmly, with no judgment.
Can’t talk right now?
Leave your name and number and we’ll call you right back — usually within the hour during our hours. Please don’t include passwords or banking details here.
What we’ll do on the call
- Check whether anything was actually installed on your device.
- Help you change the right passwords safely, from a device we know is clean.
- Tell you what to watch for on your bank and card statements.
- Stay patient, explain in plain English, and never make you feel foolish.
How you know we’re the real thing: we never ask for banking passwords, you watch your whole screen the entire time and can stop at any moment, and we never store passwords. We do the opposite of what a scammer does.
